Ruud on target against Hamburg
Saturday, August 02, 2008
Real Madrid beat Martin Jol's Hamburg 2-1 in the opening game of the Emirates Cup.
Ruud van Nistelrooy opened the scoring for the Spanish champions before Mohamed Zidan scored a brilliant equaliser for the Germans.
Real's late winner was scored by teenager Daniel Parejo, who has been a target for Queen's Park Rangers.
Parejo, who is likely to join QPR on a season-long loan, scored the winner shortly before the finish when he headed past Hamburg keeper Frank Rost from Juanmi Callejon's cross.
Real had opened the scoring in the 25th minute when Michel Salgado robbed Dutch midfielder Nigel de Jong in Hamburg's penalty area before setting up Van Nistelrooy for a simple finish.
Hamburg equalised shortly after the break, when substitute Zidan beat goalkeeper Jerzy Dudek with a wonderful shot which went in off the woodwork.
Madrid had named a strong starting line-up, but Chelsea-target Robinho had to make-do with a place on the bench.
Hamburg left Real Madrid-transfer target Rafael van der Vaart out of the Hamburg starting XI.
Manager Jol revealed that Van der Vaart is likely to complete his move to Madrid shortly, which would make him the fifth Dutch international at the Bernabeu.
"Both clubs are trying to get a deal," Jol said.
"We have an arrangement with Rafael that he can go for a certain amount of money. They offered us €7-8million (£5.5-£6.3 million) but that isn't enough."
